Mljet National Park
Salt lakes and the islet of St Mary
The western part of the island of Mljet has been a national park since 1960. Veliko and Malo jezero are salt lakes connected to the sea by narrow channels and ringed by dense Aleppo pine forest, and a 12th-century Benedictine monastery stands on the islet in the middle of the larger lake.
Things to do
- •Cycle or walk the loop around Veliko jezero
- •Take the small boat to St Mary's islet and its monastery
- •Swim in the warm salt lakes
- •Hike up Montokuc for a view over the whole park
Getting there
Mljet is an island with no road link to the mainland. Ferries and catamarans sail from Dubrovnik (Gruž), and a car ferry from Prapratno on the Pelješac peninsula. We drive you to your port of departure and meet you when you return to the mainland.
